The tip oxidized upon receipt.
The tip was badly oxidized when I received the soldering iron. I've tried fixing it with tin tip, flux, etc. to no avail. I bought some replacement T12 tips that worked fine (the tip that came with the kit is a very small tapered tip) and the problem was fixed. .
