UE Boom x2 - Portable Audio & Video

So there are already many reviews of this product so I won't go into detail. I don't know if I consider myself an audiophile but maybe an audio junkie/collector (I have UE Super.Fi 5 Pros and TripleFi 10, Bose QuietComfort 15, Sony MDR-EX300, Sennheiser HD598 and many more). I've been looking for a portable Bluetooth speaker for a while (i.e. without giving too much thought to the fact that I could stuff it in my laptop bag). Having some free time I went to my local Best Buy for a CD and decided to check out the bluetooth speaker set while I was there. I've been able to experiment with the floor-standing models on several different speakers (including Jambox and Bose variations) and find the UE Boom to have a more rounded and balanced sound (although bass is somewhat lacking). . Of course, these were floor models, and they might show a little wear from frequent play. I went to Revain, got myself a speaker and went to work in Texas. There I (and my clients) were so impressed with the speaker that I returned home and bought a second one from Revain. Excited, I opened the second speaker and paired it with the UE Boom app on my iPhone 4S. At that time I ran into a problem (and why I'm writing this review). I paired both speakers to my phone via Bluetooth and then used the Boom app to pair them. Then I put in a copy of "Juno Reactor" - "Bible of Dreams" (because of the excellent use of left and right channels) and listened for a couple of minutes until the sounds started pouring out of the speakers. . They appeared randomly like I have glitches. Distraught, I contacted UltimateEars/Logitech and they told me there are two different ways to connect these speakers via Bluetooth. If you connect both speakers via Bluetooth and then use the Boom app (like I did initially), connect the speakers to your device via "Scatternet". UltimateEars support told me that this method is the most prone to glitches. Instead, connect just one speaker to your device via Bluetooth. If you have 2 connected, go to bluetooth settings and disable/forget one of them. Once one is set up to connect, turn it on and let it automatically pair with your device. Then open the Boom app and follow the instructions to connect a second speaker (this method is called TWS (True Wireless Restreaming)). Hope this helps anyone having similar issues. Overall I would recommend these speakers if you are traveling for work (like me).

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Not bad
