I have a Dell Inspiron 14z laptop with a 19" Dell monitor. The monitor has only a VGA connection, the laptop doesn't. I had originally bought a VGA to mini display port adapter which worked great until the port (on the pc) somehow got damaged and would not accept the adapter.So, deciding to connect to the pc's HDMI port I bought the Etekcity 1080P adapter which seemed from the description to be made for the purpose and (maybe this should have been a warning sign!) was quite inexpensive.Anyway to make a long story short, it fit fine, but nothing I tried would get it to work. I returned it to Best Buy (great customer service!) and ordered the "StarTech.com HD2VGAE2 HDMI to VGA Converter" which arrived in two days(I highly recommend Prime), plugged right in, and worked like a champ form the get-go.As a side light, before ordering from Best Buy I had gone with my problem to the local Best Buy and Radio Shack stores, hoping for a quick fix adapter and was told in both cases that no such thing existed or that if it did it would be 'very expensive.'
