So this vga converter is special because it lets you use a modern (hdmi) video source with an old display (vga - in my case a projector). Most adapters are for converting video the other way around. I'm actually using it with a fairly complicated combination of adapters and wireless video stuff, and the wireless VGA bridge has no problems detecting the VGA monitor, which is a plus and also means that the device is well made and designed.

I have a ViewSonic projector which only has vga ports - my laptop only has HDMI output. I purchased less expensive adapters, which did not work. Thought I'd save $15 on an adapter and it was nothing but frustration. This one works exactly as expected right out of the box. Maybe you have extra time on your hands, maybe you like frustration with digital items. If you don't have time and don't like frustration, this is what you're looking for.

We tested this adapter on a 2012 HP Windows 7 laptop with three different video projectors. It installed without any drivers needed and worked fine after sleeping & waking the laptop. The laptop & the projectors adjusted their resolutions automatically and it worked just fine.

This is a great adapter to use with dual monitors. I use it on my Mac. The only thing was when I plugged it in the sound wanted to go to the monitor since it is an HDMI cable so I had to go into the settings and change it back to my regular speakers. Other than that it works great. It actually seems to work better than the thunderbolt adapter I have for the other screen.

This adapter is a solid performer. I had bought another, cheaper, adapter first that didn't work. The old adage about buy cheap buy twice was spot on in my case.

The newer laptops are not coming with a SVGA output. And since none of our HP's that have a SVGA port have a port with mounting screws, the connection could come loose during a presentation.But our projectors are old enough that they do not have the newer HDMI port. With this convertor we can use whatever length HDMI cable and convert to SVGA. You will still need an SVGA cable to connect this convertor to the projector. But we can make this work just fine.

I tried this converter with a Samsung Chromebook (model number XE303C12-A01US) and the ViewSonic LCD projector couldn't see the signal. :-(

Connection required duct tape to stay secure, but it has allowed full use of my computer, projector, and Powerpoint options I didn't have before!

This turns the blue monitor chord into HDMI. I now have a sweet 3 monitor set up, without having to buy a new monitor. :) Not ideal for webcams or video conferencing!

This happy adapter works fine on the handful of Dell Optiplex boxes that I tried it on (the 380/390 series, not the current 30x0 generation which have DisplayPort instead of HDMI).When I used it between a nettop computer (Foxconn nt-535) and a VGA broadcast box, the video quality was very poor, but I think that was the fault of the broadcast box not properly translating a not-quite-standard VGA signal. We've connected these to many PCs and many different monitors. The image quality is terrible. Startech usually has great stuff, but I would recommend skipping this.

Works great if you are connecting it to a projector but does not work when connecting it to a TV when there isn't an extra HDMI slot.
