Poor performance, poor design

This review refers to the Honeywell TP70AWKN. The device was well packaged, it wasn't difficult to get it out of the box. But I had a bad experience with its performance and design. The unit was for my basement - temperatures around 70F all summer long. Relative humidity in the basement ranges from 55% to 75% depending on how humid the outside environment is. My intention was to keep the relative humidity at 50% with a dehumidifier. First, the dehumidifier began giving erroneous readings of the relative humidity of the environment by a wide margin. I calibrated and used 3 of my own humidistats for comparison. When they all read 60%, Honeywell thought the relative humidity was 70% and ran continuously. In addition, according to his own statement, he was never able to reduce the relative humidity to 50%, even after two full days of continuous operation. Even more cryptically, if I turn it off, leave it off for about ten minutes, and then turn it back on, it reads an initial relative humidity of about 60%. If my setting is 55% it will work immediately. You might think this is a good sign. But no! Once it starts running, its own humidistat reading will increase rather than decrease, as if it were releasing water into the air rather than removing it. As a result, it never stops no matter what the setting was (unless I set it to around 75%, which doesn't make sense). Water tank and indicated by my own hygrostats but his own hygrostat never detected this. About 4 days later, when I unplugged it and emptied it to pack it up for return, I found that a layer of ice had formed on it. The evaporator coil somewhat blocks the airflow. Keep in mind that the basement temp is 70F or higher and I have never used a setting below 50%. In addition, the relative humidity in the basement did not rise above 65% even without a dehumidifier. So why ice? I find the design flawed. The moisture sensor is arranged to sense either moisture from the water tank or moisture/ice on the coil. The humidity sensor may only be exposed to the incoming moist air. There was another problem with the continuous emptying. It runs partly into the permanent drain and partly into the water tank unless I tilt it back about 5 degrees. It also seems to be some kind of design issue where the water channel is common and even affected by a slight tilt. Overall I am very dissatisfied with the product. i give it back
