Review on Aputure AL-F7 On-Camera LED Light 256 LED Bi-Color Dimmable Video Light CRI 95+ TLCI 95+ Wide Range 3200K-9500K 260g Lightweight Compact, 100,000 Hours Long Lifetime by Justin Newport

Great performance - solid construction - bright shade

Very solid little light, good value for money. The variable color temperature is great, especially since it can be adjusted up to 9500K, which is very blue and useful for accent lighting. In the warmer light range there is a very slight green tint, which is particularly noticeable around 3200k. This is by no means a deal breaker and the light still looks great. However, if you combine it with incandescent bulbs or practical lamps, you may notice a difference. The overall light output is really good for this size. Remember that it's brightest at around 5600K when all the LEDs are in use. As with most lightbars, where the LEDs are arranged in a fixed order, there are some staggered stripes in the shadows. In terms of build quality, it is mostly made of plastic but looks well made. I suspect the clear plastic panel on the front could crack if you drop it on concrete, but it doesn't look like it's going to fall off from normal wear and tear any time soon. Sony NP batteries sit securely and do not wobble. The attachment points are also secure and stable. The included small bag and the ball head are very nice. As well as diffusion filters (two included). I would give 4.5 stars if I could, but I gave 4 stars because of the slight green cast. I think for the price it will be hard to do much better. I was also considering buying a new Aputure AL-MX as it uses a different type of LED so color may not be an issue.

Pros
  • Fits me perfectly
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
