good framework. Installation can be a problem.

Beautiful carbon fiber veneer frame. Everything is stainless steel and it seems like a solid company is backing everything up for a very reasonable price. In the end it looks good on my car. However, unless you have a very basic self-tapping screw in a nylon mounting system, you might be surprised at how difficult it can be to properly secure the license plate and frame to your car. There are no uniform standards. You may also be surprised at how complex bolts and washers can be in their variety, size and nomenclature - yes indeed! I have attached photos of the installation steps on my new Audi Q5. These are the things I learned the hard way: 1) Audi has a black plastic body panel with nuts built in to mount the license plate/frame. Be careful, these nuts come off the cheap plastic sheet easily. The biggest problem is that these factory nuts are VERY VERY small. Maybe 3 turns of the screw in depth - that's it - then hit the bottom. Bad design. This leads to surprisingly rigid and frustrating specifications for the hardware required (see below). 2) I bought everything in stainless steel. The variety of screws and washers you can try will surprise you. 3) I used M6 x 16 metric screws. The length was the result of trial and error and choosing different combinations of shims. I ended up using this bolt, plus a 1/4" lock washer and a 1/4" AN washer (ever heard of an AN washer? Smaller width than a regular washer) plus a regular 1/4" Washer behind the frame. is in addition to the screw caps/caps that came with the frame. 4) I couldn't lay everything flat until I used a nylon mallet to flatten the bottom "fingers" on the frame. They hit that Audi body plate and prevented the license plate/frame from sitting flush 5) There is a distinct ridge on the frame This looks nice but makes it difficult to install the license plate flush with the frame without an air gap I glued foam insulation behind the license plate, to pry the license plate away from the Audi body panel and press firmly against the back of the frame, remember your license plate isn't really flat, it's cheap metal, flexi bled and has many creases and nicks. to fit everything correctly. The biggest problem was the little nuts on Audi's factory license platform, which made no mistake. The frame manufacturer's installation video shows that you can get all the parts you need and easily install everything in 3 minutes. Absolutely not, at least not with an Audi. Hope this helps someone.

Pros
  • 2 HOLES ANTI-THEFT CAP: Criminals often steal license plate frames to hide stolen vehicles from law enforcement or for other nefarious reasons. Or our beautiful stainless steel license plate protectors from DFDM National are included! WARNING, they are very difficult to disassemble intentionally. The thief drives past your vehicle as an easier target! If you want a less secure option, purchase our Standard Style Kit instead.
