The handle feels solid and is safe to hold while the charcoal is burning. My main concern is the lid and I'm sure that's why most people choose this model. The lid doesn't actually have a lip, the lid doesn't have a handle (my fingers are too big for the little lip they stick in) and the lid has holes in it, but it puts out even raging embers in about 60 seconds. . There just isn't enough airflow. However, being able to blow things out is a pleasant surprise. If you want something with a charcoal handle and agree that the lid serves as a decoration/snuffer then this is a great buy.
