I have purchased this faux-leather journal alongside another genuine leather journal and comparing them both may seem to be unfair. This I think is good for casual use and the flap on the right make it slightly inconvenient to be used as a travel journal. On the positive side it is well made and has a cool neat design and the way the leather straps goes around it to close it is a cool idea. The pirate charms like the anchor and ship steering wheel makes this more geared towards casual use rather than professional one. I gifted this to my 16 year old niece who appreciates it way better than I do.The pages inside are sepia toned but are not the best out there. I do not think they are recycled.There was a distinct factory smell when I opened this.All and all, when I saw this online and read the customer reviews I was excited and I was about to order 2 or 3 of them but after receiving it I realized that I need other things in my journal and that the design and quality of this may not necessarily match a professional life-style. My 16 year old niece is ecstatic about it and uses it, although she has replaced the paper with other paper. The spiral clips are a sing of a good functional design.
