I was looking for a cheap disposable to play CDs powered by portable stage audio equipment as a signal generator. If cables have been damaged, unexpected connections, etc.; I wouldn't risk expensive equipment. Of the other cheap CD players, this one looked the best, which helped me with my purchasing decision. This is a really cheap player. It looks a lot cheaper in person than it does in the Revain photo. The plastic parts look roughly cast, the buttons look the cheapest. The volume control has little movement, so adjusting the playback level is rough and imprecise. The headphone jack is cheap and pops when the cable wiggles. The headphones that come with it are the worst I have ever seen or heard. When listening to a classic CD as a test, the sound in the headphones wasn't much better than an old Victrola or maybe some tin cans and string. When I plugged in a decent set of regular headphones, fidelity improved, but distortion, possibly clipping, was noticed on all louder passages. This indicates either a poorly designed or implemented audio amplifier in the headphone circuitry, or a poor connection at the headphone jack. With all these drawbacks, the player worked fine most of the time. The buttons all worked, the display was clear enough. It meets my immediate needs, but I would never use it for serious or critical listening (and in fact I should be able to. I've had similar Sony and Panasonic sets that sounded great through regular headphones). My guess is that if the user only plays a CD while exercising, the audio deficiencies are likely to be less obvious. Especially if the music played for this workout is just a loud rhythmic bass line, as I know many people find the workout stimulating. So it's not complete rubbish, but you get what you pay for.
