The product works without programming. However, sometimes the power button gets stuck and the mechanism inside is weak, and you can hear the batteries rattling if you move or shake it too quickly. I didn't push all the buttons, so I don't know if there are problems with others, so I'm waiting to be surprised later. It says Sony on the front, but it's definitely not a legitimate Sony product, it's some sort of knock mark. off version. The original remote was chewed up by my dog over 10 years ago and when I tried to order it from Sony it cost $120. Outrageous. I was able to get by with the universal remote for many years, but now I have a different setup where I need to toggle an input that the universal remote doesn't control. After switching to TV it does not work there either. So I had to order a TV remote control. I ordered a similar one from eBay a while back but it didn't work. At least this one does. For around $10 I wasn't expecting better quality so I'll just live with a rattling and sticky power button. I couldn't exchange it anyway as it's now out of stock and I'm afraid if I buy it from another seller it might not work either.
