My wife and I are 80's kids and we have fond memories of classic arcade games, especially 4-way stick games like Pac-Man and Donkey Kong. I've dabbled with MAME over the past few decades and bought the classics Pac-Man and Donkey Kong on several different consoles, but never played much because the controls weren't precise enough. I didn't understand anything about 2/4/8 moves, gates or limiters, I just knew it didn't work. Our son got the Switch for Christmas this year and Pac-Man and Donkey Kong are available on it, so this week I went looking for joysticks. There's a lot of information out there, and it's overwhelming for someone who doesn't know anything about it. The biggest problem is that most people are looking for an 8 position "fight stick" and it seems to be available off the shelf. Most quad stick discussions involve people with the knowledge and skills to buy components and build their own. However, between work, parenting, caring for elderly parents, and existing hobbies, I'd rather buy something that works right away than try to become an expert myself. Officially, Hori's Signature Stick for Switch is double the size of this one and 8-way. I also found this one to be a bit more expensive, but figured that with Sanwa components and the 4-way adjustability I wouldn't have to spend more time and money on upgrades, so I decided to give it a try. Now that I've done that, it's an amazing difference. Games have gone from being useless to being entertaining. We can finally play Pac-Man and Donkey Kong without skipping corners or getting stuck on stairs.
