I bought this to add Remote Touch for the headphone dock to the soundbar's audio channel. After playing around with this for a while and fixing all the hardware in my setup, I figured that cable splitter was the culprit. The TOSLINK fit on my TV was "questionable" as any jiggling would cause the audio on my soundbar to cycle on and off, and even when it's standing still there are occasional noises. I could never get it to work with my TOSLINK to analog converter which I used to power my headphone amp. I suspect you are reducing the light amplitude of the signal by 1/2 since this is a passive device (no power/gain). This might be fine with some devices, especially when set to lower light levels, but my D/A converter didn't have one and my Samsung soundbar barely worked. I went ahead and ordered a powered splitter (powered splitters work the same way except they take the signal and redirect the full level outputs to their own amplified output so there is no signal loss). I plan on keeping this as it wasn't much and I might be able to use it for something in a future project.
