Review on Sony - H900N Hi-Res Noise Cancelling Wireless Headphone Twilight Red (WHH900N/R) by Nate Jenkins

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Well made, great sound, good staying power compared to Bose QuietComfomfort 35

I've tried both and the Bose Quietcomfort 35 II side by side. Sony works better for me, but probably not for everyone. Sony's noise cancellation is excellent. I like to switch between modes to turn it on and off, if only to hear how effective this technology is. The Bose NC is actually better, although not by much as the data backs it up if you look at detailed reviews. I was able to determine this in a parallel test in an office environment. But both are impressive and sufficient for my purposes. The touch controls on these headphones are truly amazing and this is an unexpected feature for me. I didn't think I'd care, but it's really handy and nice to be able to swipe the edge of the earbud and change the volume, skip a track and tap to pause. In comparison, Bose looks about ten years older with its physical buttons. I'd hate to revisit the lack of this feature, but it's probably not the deciding factor for some. I've had occasional Bluetooth pairing failures (false positive pairing) with these headphones as others have noted. Nothing I can't work around by trying again, but there seems to be a major flaw here. In my testing, the Bose headphones exhibited the odd eardrum pressure found in a number of headphone reviews. I have fairly sensitive ears and have found that I often have to swallow and adjust my ear pressure when changing the size for example. That was a handicap for me, but then again, my ears are more sensitive than most. Sony does not have this problem. I found the Bose headphones to be a bit lighter and have a more comfortable fit. Sony is still comfortable and very well designed. They look and feel more expensive than the Bose model (which has about the same aesthetic appeal as the headphones handed out on the plane). Sony looks cool. Sony looks good with my glasses. I didn't notice any issues with the lower noise-cancellation or discomfort. That was a relief for me as I often wear glasses. The Sony comes with a carrying case. How about a suitcase for that price? Overall I am really impressed with these headphones and overall they are better than the Bose model for me.

Pros
  • Great construction
Cons
  • Good but not great
