American Quality. In my test it worked fine. I bought this gas detector just for "peace of mind". I couldn't find any leaks. I placed the sensor in our chimney (natural gas) and just opened the gas valve. After a few seconds he squeaked like a banshee. Then I closed the gas valve completely and after about a minute the counter in the readings began to go down. After about a minute, the alarm sound stopped. I then tested the device with a butane lighter. I lit the lighter and then blew out the flame and brought it to the sensor. He started shrieking like a banshee again. I find the device reliable and well made. I would try to protect the sensor head from physical damage. My only minor issue is that I found the battery cover to be a bit difficult to remove. Once you learn how to click the small tab, this process becomes easy. Nice American tool.
