Revainrating 5 out of 5

A nice option for the money, one of the best deals.

An ideal travel laptop for Linux, a relatively good laptop for Windows. I took it in addition to the Macbook Pro M1 as an even easier option, and also so that you can check the operation of the software on Windows & Linux, on the Intel platform. In general, I am very satisfied with the purchase. It is very pleasant to carry such a laptop with you, take it on trips, although these trips will have to wait. The build seems to be more robust than the Macbook Pro. Unfortunately, the impressions of the work are somewhat spoiled by periodic lags under Windows. A laptop with the latest 4-core processor, 16 gigs of RAM and an SSD should not lag. I put Linux (Fedora 34) as the second OS, but most likely I will leave it the only one. As expected, there are no problems with iron, zero problems with speed. The laptop flies, nothing slows down, everything is convenient and beautiful. In addition to lags under Windows, the sound part was also slightly upset. I don’t expect quality from laptop speakers, it doesn’t matter if Dolby is written on them or not, but at least in headphones the sound should be more or less decent. For some reason, in this laptop, through a minijack, it’s even difficult to get enough volume, although I’m not a fan of loud music, but this is my first laptop where you can set the volume to 100% and even then sometimes it’s not enough. The solution is to use a compact adapter / DAC with a built-in amplifier. I use some Chinese Tempotec Sonata HD. With it, the quality is much higher and the volume is sufficient. Conclusion - the iron is excellent, 5-, minus for the sound. I give Microsoft a deuce for discrediting very good hardware. Although under Linux their own browser and their own Visual Studio Code work fine.

Pros
  • Weightless, compact, 16:10 screen of high resolution and good quality with narrow bezels, excellent build quality and very pleasant tactile sensations, easy-to-use keyboard, trackpoint and touchpad, almost zero noise level, relatively good battery life (8-9 hours), at the same time, good speed for such dimensions, support for the latest AVX512 instructions and new iris graphics, smart Thunderbolt 4 ports, the ability to replace / upgrade an SSD, although it is a rare 2242 form factor, competitive price (in China), 100% Linux compatibility. Well, in general, what is a Thinkpad. It even smells like thinkpad. A small bonus for cash-strapped dudes like me: this lightweight and high-quality travel laptop is perfectly matched in style, weight and quality to Sennheiser ie800s ears (see photo)
Cons
  • The sound system is weak. Windows 10 makes this nimble laptop lag. The screen falls just short of the color quality of the Macbook Pro. I would not mind if the laptop added in thickness, but it got HDMI and USB-A. Although it will already turn out X1 Carbon.
