Poisonous? Deposits after only 2 days and water with a chemical smell

I hate it. It's only been 2 days and the burner already has corrosion/damage (see photo). What a mess for Bodum. I'm not even picky and I don't use the kettle that often that each one is enough. I had a small red Bodum Ibis with occasional use for 10 years and it died. So I thought to myself, I'll buy another plastic Bodum and I'll be happy with it for another 10 years. Not right. My god, you just can't clean it. nothing will do. and no. You can't descale it either. I have espresso machines so I have good descaling products - nothing can get rid of the white deposits that have built up in just 2 days of use. I washed it well before use. I only use filtered water. but I'm going to make tea today, and the water comes out with the smell of bleach. I can't do anything. it is inedible and only gets worse quickly. It is unhealthy? Like most reviewers, I don't care about the yellow number 5 or anything Chinese. could probably drink straight out of the toilet (only at home). but it doesn't even meet my very lax health standards for drinking liquids. I was considering a return as the lid was difficult to clean but thought the Inkan would solve that rather than the return issue. Now that he turns clean water into hot water with nothing but chlorine, he has to go.

Pros
  • Kettle: Equipped with manual switch and operating indicator and steam sensor for automatic switch-off and additional safety; BPA-free plastic
Cons
  • A nuisance
