Moisturizes and soothes but no zinc

I have a 14 month old son who often gets diaper rash when he is teething. Since he was a newborn, I always treated him with diaper cream, paste or ointment after every diaper change. They usually contain high percentages of zinc. I ordered dr. Brown's Natural because I love everything Dr. Brown's! The first thing I did was sniff it: it has absolutely no smell. I actually prefer a light scent, but that's a personal preference. This is an extremely moisturizing cream, but it does not contain zinc. I used it on my son right out of the bath and found it to be very runny in consistency. The first thing that happened was he burst out of the pipe and exploded EVERYWHERE (except his ass LOL). We use a silicone diaper cream applicator and it glides off instantly. I love the fact that it's all natural and contains witch hazel, which is a fantastic ingredient for calming inflamed skin. My son is teething and any moisture from his diaper irritates his skin. This cream soothed the redness and made his skin very soft! I doubt how well it forms a moisture barrier. It seemed to evaporate on his skin more as a moisturizer than a protectant. Without zinc, it's more of a daily cream than something that would definitely heal a rash once it starts. I think it will benefit his skin when it's easily irritated, but I will be using a heavy duty zinc based product to prevent and treat rashes if his skin is more prone to breakouts. I would buy this in the future as a product to use between zinc applications (perhaps every other diaper or nap diapers). This would be best for kids who have fairly healthy skin to begin with and just need a moisturizing quality. Start with a small amount because it's a bit runny (like a lotion) and not a hard ointment or paste. **Note: my son loves to hold the tube! It's quite short, thick and soft to the touch. So far the cap seems to have stayed closed even when he managed to cling to it! + for the packaging!
