It is sold as an all purpose jar and seems like most people use it for butter but I was looking for a maple syrup dispenser and this works great. The glass seems brittle, but I've had no trouble breaking even after hitting it and storing it in the fridge door with other glass bottles. At first I was afraid the spout would fall out if tipped over since it's only held in place by friction, but the textured glass works great. It was designed to be easily removed from the spout but never fell out even when upside down. A small air hole at the spout mouth, correctly positioned at the end of the spout, ensures liquids flow freely and not clogged. The only design flaw I see is that the tip of the spout extends slightly beyond the width of the neck. So when a drop falls, it hits the wall of the vessel instead of back down through the funnel neck. In most cases, however, residual liquid runs back into the reservoir via the spout. The stream is a slow, thin stream about 1/16 inch wide, suitable for dripping syrup. to quickly drain the oil.Having tried several low quality syrup dispensers, this one worked the best while still looking exquisite on the table and didn't cost a fortune.
