Batteries are not included. You must put one AA battery in each massager. Both massagers work well and are controlled by twisting the tip at the base of the handle. I really like that you get two separate tools instead of one multi-head tool as I find the latter doesn't hold up well. The reels come in a magnetically sealed box with a strong piece of foam to protect them. There are two manuals, one in Chinese and one in English. This set also makes a great gift.
