Full review - amazing screen and fantastic price

If you've bought screens, you probably already know that there are big price differences and many options to choose from. Some people try to get by with a plain wall painted white, while others buy fabric and create a custom solution. However, these options also have disadvantages, and you will probably never get such a sharp and sharp image as you would on a real screen. With prices coming down a lot in recent years, you'd be hard pressed to design and build anything of comparable quality for less than just buying one of those Silver Ticket screens. Yes, you can spend much, much more - you can even spend over $2,000 for the same size screen if you want - but I doubt you'll be happy with the end result. I actually read reviews elsewhere comparing much more expensive screens to this one and found that the Silver Ticket screen was just as good, if not better, for a fraction of the price. As the saying goes...why pay more? Before I bought the screen I decided to project it on the wall to see what size would be most suitable for my room. I used masking tape to mark the corners of the projected image and then measured to determine the appropriate screen size. I'd highly recommend this option as it gives you a feel for the optimal solution for your particular room taking into account speaker placement, projector distance, obstacles etc. You also need to consider the bezel size, so don't just look at the screen dimensions, but also look at the overall dimensions including the bezel to make sure everything is what you expect. As soon as I received my screen and started unboxing it, I quickly knew I had made the right choice. The extruded aluminum rails are very strong and will not flex AT ALL. The felt cover is perfectly even and smooth. The building instructions are simple and to the point, but YouTube videos are available if you're more of a visual learner. I had the benefit of a flat ping pong table (covered with a blanket) for mounting, but a carpeted outdoor area is fine too. All fittings for assembly were of high quality and fairly easy. They also provided a couple of extra screen clips and at least one extra mounting screw just in case. I was initially concerned that the two piece top and bottom guides would be a weak point, but once assembled this is not a problem as these guides are straight, like a laser. Also, the joint in the rails is practically invisible due to the felt on the rails themselves - if you didn't know there was a joint you'd never see it, so it's not a problem. The tensioning system left the screen fully formed with no ripples or ripples - however if there are slight dents in the screen material itself I would imagine these will disappear over time as the screen adjusts to the tension. The screen itself is remarkable. It is a coated PVC material, so it is more of a highly flexible plastic than a conventional fabric. Upon unrolling, I noticed a slight odor similar to that of an air mattress or inflatable pool, but this odor went away after a few hours. I can't say this material is as strong as cloth, but I can say that installation was easy and didn't have the tension issues that some other screen designs struggle with, so maybe this stuff is more forgiving of the stretch to that). In any case, the image quality is amazing, which is the most important thing in my opinion. Because the material is PVC, this screen is not acoustically transparent. That means you can't install speakers behind the screen as it will muffle the sound. If you want the speakers to be hidden behind the screen, you must opt for a true acoustically transparent (AT) screen, either perforated or made of cloth material to let the sound through. Mounting the screen on the wall was the only step which required two people. After measuring and re-measuring to make sure the screws are in the right places I found it helpful to use some masking tape on the front of the frame to show me where the wall mounts are and another piece Duct tape on the wall above screws. This allowed us to easily lift the screen, line up the two pieces of tape, and hang the screen on the screws. However, if the screws on the wall are too loose or too tight, you may have to lower and adjust the screen again, so be prepared to spend a few minutes on this step. The four screws that attach the screen to the wall were the only part. Devices, with which I was not 100% satisfied. The Phillips heads on the screws were not very well made, so there was a slight tear when screwing in the stud bolts. If I had to reinstall the screen I would toss those four screws in the trash and install four high quality glass head construction screws instead. Small point but worth mentioning. The wall mounts themselves work well, but I would have preferred some sort of French tenon system, which is more forgiving and doesn't require precise screw alignment. I should also note that wall mounts result in the screen protruding about half an inch from the wall. This gives room for fingers behind the frame when installing and room for center reinforcement post to adjust. I thought, the screen would sit flush with the wall after installation so I wasn't sure how I would feel about that initially, but after installation I didn't even notice it. However, I think that with a slight change in their mounting brackets and a slight change in the center post, they could easily design the screen to mount flush to the wall. I don't know why they didn't, as without AT you don't have to worry about leaving room on the screen for the speakers. All in all I am very satisfied. The projected image (I use a Sony VPLHW40ES 1080p 3D projector) is incredibly clear and bright. There is a noticeable improvement over the image projected onto the wall and the detail is so good that I can see the pores on the actors' skin from over 15 feet away. so clear that both the projector and the screen are doing their job. The felt frame is excellent at absorbing light. So if you zoom in so that some pixels hit the edge of the screen, you won't even see it. Homemade screens with a wood or metal frame that aren't lined with felt may not have this benefit, as they tend to reflect some of the light back at you instead of absorbing it like felt does. This screen also doesn't have any branding or branding on the frame like some of the other screens I've looked at. This isn't a huge issue for most people, but I feel the lack of a brand makes it more professional. Conclusion: Good: * Sturdy aluminum rails * High quality mounting hardware * Smooth felt material on rails * Good assembly instructions * Easy and quick to assemble * Great packaging * Stunning screen display * Even more amazing value * No markings on frame Bad: * Mounts Wall mounts require accurate measurement (relentless) * Wall mount screws don't fit to the rest of the package * The final installation leaves a gap between the screen and the wall, giving you a dirty look of frustration... really not much to report here. If you have any doubts about this screen, I encourage you to buy it. I am very happy with the end product and am a bit picky when it comes to my AV gear. It took me months and months of research, before deciding on a projector and screen and I have no regrets. I was willing to spend a lot more for a screen, but after reading reviews and comparisons, I kept coming back to the Silver Ticket option... and I'm glad I did. My very minor complaints are so minor that they don't even deserve a half star deduction from the rating, so this is definitely a five out of five product. Pros
  • Material tone - light grey, gain 1.0. The material may appear white due to its special reflective properties. Compare to white paper to see the gray tone. Works great with long throw, short throw and ultra short throw projectors.
Cons
  • Only available in black
