If you are looking for a snapshot camera that can do just about anything, the Nikon Coolpix L330 is worth considering. I am a camera geek and own both full size Nikon SLRs (my current Nikon D5300) and small pocket cameras. This L330 is basically a mix of both: it's small (and light) enough to be carried around easily, yet has a large and powerful lens that outperforms a true pocket camera in many ways. The outstanding feature of this camera is the lens. The lens is much larger than any pocket camera, meaning it captures more light for more detail and sharper shots. In photography, for example, I notice a clear difference in favor of this camera compared to my Canon pocket camera. With a 26x optical zoom, this camera is really good for landscapes, portraits and more. Like all cameras in this class, this camera probably shouldn't be used to capture moving subjects like birds in flight or football matches, although it can be fine in a pinch. The ergonomics of this camera are well thought out. I was able to get pretty comfortable with this camera without having to go through the manual, which is good as the manual is pretty much useless. Most users should only spend 20 minutes browsing the camera's menus; this will familiarize most users with the camera. (The manual is very primitive.) Honestly, you can set most settings to "Auto" and work just fine with this camera. The viewfinder displays both shutter speed and aperture, which is a nice feature for advanced shooters. The flash is easy to use and quite good for a flash of this class. I've shot night parties with it and it worked just as well as any built in flash I've used. Overall the fit and finish of this camera is excellent, as you would expect from Nikon. This is an all-plastic camera, which is great because it's nice and light, but still strong enough for almost all users. Seemingly an unrelenting trend in camera design, this camera doesn't have an optical viewfinder; It uses the rear LED screen to frame pictures. I am against this trend as it can cause problems in bright sunlight. But all camera manufacturers seem to have decided to abandon optical viewfinders for cameras in this class. It's a shame, useless in my opinion. I will say that the LED on this camera is nice and bright and does the job as well as you would expect from a screen of this type. The maximum shutter speed on this camera is 1/500, which is fast enough for shooting in bright sunlight on the go. ; You can forget about indoor sports or other indoor speed kicks; the lens is simply not bright enough here. For example, this camera does not provide satisfactory results when recording indoor basketball games. The burst speed on this camera is 1fps, which I don't think is good enough for wildlife photography, but better than nothing. This camera takes great photos in good light. For night shots, increase the ISO setting (with the resulting graininess) or use the flash. Both approaches can produce decent photos, although I've found night shots a bit difficult in practice. Luckily, you can immediately review the photo and, in most cases, retake it if it doesn't look good. Definitely better than the movies. I am very pleased that this camera uses 4 AA batteries. First, AA batteries are ubiquitous; always available on vacation and my family always takes them on trips. The 4 AA batteries that power this camera take LOTS of shots - I'm at 500 and still taking them; Lots of people use Flash. I'm very glad Nikon has refrained from using those pathetic AAA batteries in this camera. The AA battery gives this camera plenty of juice; The flash charges up fairly quickly, doesn't drain the camera quickly and the camera just keeps chugging along. In my opinion, this was a very successful design decision by Nikon. This camera records 720p videos. I rarely used my camera for this, so this feature is not covered in my review. All in all, this is a great camera for its class that outperforms real pocket cameras. It's small enough to carry far fewer snags than a full DSLR like my trusty D5300, and takes really good photos within its confines. It's a good choice for family outings, portraits, or industrial/business use. There are many cameras in a small body and they are very easy to use. highlighted. RDB.
