Do not try to remove the seal!
The Snapware containers that I have purchased that are not included in this kit have seals that should be removed and washed prior to first use. When I tried that with this set the gasket was a different design and appeared to be glued in 2 places so it broke in two when I pulled hard! The good news is that the company will send me a replacement cover. The bad news is that these lids can be a lot harder to keep clean. Many people recommend regularly removing the pads to give them a thorough cleaning to prevent mold growth. I hope the sanitizing cycle in my dishwasher helps and I don't have to worry about mold.
