I needed to transfer files from a burned out computer to a new windows 7 box This adapter turned on the HD and was immediately recognized as a new USB device. I was able to copy around 100 GB of data without any problems. However, after about half an hour I wanted to copy something else and it stopped working. I thought it might be a Windows 7 problem, but it no longer shows up as a USB device on the XP computer I also plugged it into, and it didn't work any better on any computer with a different drive plugged in. Maybe it overheated, but at least I got through the important files.
