Keep your brush clean!
I don't know what the deodorant part is, but it keeps my brush clean and makes it easier to remove any hair that builds up in the brush. It might take a bit of work to get it onto my rubber-tipped flat brush, but it makes up for that with what I said in my first suggestion. I will buy them again when my current stock runs out. EDIT: It's May 2019 now and I'm still using them. My wooden paddle brush is a few years old but still looks brand new.
