Review on 🌟 Celestron 51635 StarPointer Pro Finderscope: Black, A Precision Tool for Stellar Navigation by William Pacino

Works reasonably well (with minor modifications)

After trying Evolution's built-in Red Dot Finder, I found the alt/az settings too shaky for my liking, so I switched to this Starpointer Pro. The alt/az adjustment in the Starpointer Pro is much more robust (at least compared to the Evo's included RDF), and I also like the larger viewfinder "lens". However, I found the Starpointer Pro's target rings too bright for the night. use of time. Even at the lowest setting on the power/brightness scale, the luminosity of the projected red circles severely eclipsed my aiming star when centered in the finderscope. My solution that solved the brightness problem (inspired by a Cloudy Nights forum post) was to cut a small square out of the adhesive tint (50% dimming). I applied a tiny square of color to the "projector" portion of the red target on the Starpointer Pro. This has proven very useful for darkening target rings projected onto a glass lens. He darkened them to an acceptable level. It probably goes without saying that Celestron could/should have calibrated the default brightness to a lower threshold, or perhaps the unit I received as an outlier. However, fixing this is pretty easy if you can get some sticky shadow.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Only available in black
