Review on PLENUE R2 Resolution JetEffect Bluetooth by Drew Poulin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It's worth upgrading from D2, the sweet spot in DAC

Although only used in firmware 1.00, the user interface is fast enough not to distract from the music, although version 1.00 is missing some less important things. The firmware was already released with an update that I haven't installed yet. The DSD256 is a welcome addition at this price point and in my opinion better than the D2's DSD128 which is said to have the same DACs. Even a modest CD-level source like FLAC shows finer detail and clarity than D2, similar source material. A sufficiently large screen, sensible key layout and user interface Although dated and idiosyncratic, it is fully usable, making it an affordable alternative to both low-end and high-end DACs. Ultimately, it's a worthy upgrade over the smaller Cowon products and a challenge to the L line for most ears and most tastes I suspect, and at a fraction of the price. I would say that this is the best place among the available DACs that deserve more attention in the market.

Pros
  • DXD / DSD (DFF, DSF, SACD-ISO) / FLAC / WAV / AIFF / ALAC / APE / MP3 / WMA / OGG / WV / TTA / DCF.
Cons
  • Legacy model
