Review on 🎨 Enhance Color Longevity with Rit Dye RIT COLORSTAY, 8 fl oz, Dye Fixative by Wendy Rodriguez

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Using it ruined the painting project.

I've dyed several dresses and a shirt with RIT Purple ombre exactly as directed. After rinsing them until the water ran clear (about an hour later) I immediately applied the dye fixer as directed and the dye seemed to run and seep back onto the piece as I stirred it into the fixer. Now everything is the same color. I was so disappointed after all the ombre gradient work that I messed it up. At this point I don't know if the dye even aids in color retention through cycles but it did cause the dye to bleed when the product is used as directed. If they were all the same color, this would not be a noticeable problem. In the past when I've colored things with RIT they've bled profusely so I'm hoping this will still reduce some of that, but the pieces all looked fantastic ombre before they hit the fixer and now they're all one monochrome. I think it will bleed in both tie-dye and spot and ombre dyed fabrics. I used the boiling water method, which he recommended as the best method. I believe that after adding it to the boiling water, a large amount of the dye came out of the fabric and then redeposited onto the lighter parts of the fabric. I wonder if it would be better to dry the object first and then try to put it in a bath with a fixative. maybe that would help?
