I've used this hair color several times and still haven't had any major problems with it. The product itself is very effective and is great for achieving a natural black hair color that gradually fades to black-brown. Because it is a natural hair dye, it is only semi-permanent and does not last as long as other black hair dyes. With minimal shampooing (ie washing with cold water 2-3 times a week) the pigment in this color will last around 3-4 weeks depending on the quality of your hair and other factors. The product is relatively easy to apply and comes with a spray bottle. . I would recommend getting a bowl of hair dye and some brushes if you want a more precise application. The henna formula is thick and thick so it can get everywhere if you're not careful. If you spill something on carpet or clothing, simply use baking soda and water paste and blot with paper towels to remove the pigment. so that the color lies evenly on the hair. There is a plastic hair wrap in the box for you to hold it upside down until the color comes out. The headband does not have an elastic band, so you will need to wear a large headband around your head to secure it, or simply use a shower cap. Now for the negative aspects of the dye: Many black henna products contain a chemical called paraphenylenediamine, also known as PPD. This compound is also found in several black hair dyes and is used to improve the color's pigment and make it stronger. Unfortunately, PPD can cause severe allergic reactions in people, myself included. Although I've used this color twice and done a strand test, I had no reaction until my very last experience with the color. I left it on for about three hours for maximum effect and felt the usual irritation associated with hair dye on my scalp. When I washed my face I didn't notice much itching, but for the next few days my body was covered with hives and I was itching badly. I have eczema but this irritation was much higher than what I normally experience. The itching was unbearable and I felt the reaction not only on my scalp but also on my face, neck and all over my body. Even though I washed off the paint in sufficient quantity and the paint dripped less in the shower after each wash, the allergic reaction bothered me despite my attempts to wash off the excess paint. Please be careful when using this dye or other PPD containing products. An allergic reaction is no joke, and this substance can make your eyes swollen and your skin red and bumpy before you know it.
