Another perfect microphone from Audio-Technica

This microphone is ideal for Behringer U-Phoria UMC404 series audio interfaces. Get a well-balanced XLR cable and you'll get great, well-balanced mids, lows and highs thanks to this mic's large diaphragm. I switched to this + audio interface from an ATR2500 (USB AT2020) when I ran into problems with Reason 9.5 and the whole ASIO4ALL memory leak/squeak/corruption issue. The ATR2500 is an ideal microphone for all digital internet voice applications including video conferencing, live streaming, VOIP for gaming etc., but working with a suitable studio microphone is mainly required for digital music production/live recording. The ATR2500 has a physical design and studio-quality sound reproduction, but the USB microphone protocol causes inherent problems (at least on Windows). The microphone works very well and I like that the noise gate and tripod head are included in the box. It is excellent for recording dynamic sounds such as human voice and instruments, as well as recording impulse responses. If you want to record things like effects, want a stereo mic for ambient, or directional for spot recording, this mic isn't for you (the basic cardioid shape picks up too much room reverberation to pick up sound in one spot, but not enough atmosphere for ecology , and it's mono). But if you want a dynamic mic for recording music, a professional-quality studio recorder, or a sleek deep mic for recording a variety of vocals as you speak, get one and the right phantom power (a must).

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • I have no complaints about it, everything is fine
