So this remote control is a good replacement for SONY TV. However, we brought the first one back because it was DOA. When the second came it was DOA too, but upon closer inspection it turned out that the battery contacts in the remote were bent and not making contact with the surface of the battery. I used a knife to bend the contact a bit and the remote worked. You can also stick a paperclip in the battery compartment between the test and the connector and that will work too (I didn't have a paperclip handy). It would have been five stars anyway, but the manufacturing process seems to be too fast for these.
