Review on SRAM PG1070: High-Performance 10-Speed Cassette for Ultimate Speed and Precision by Paul Weakland

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great cassette for weight, price and tooth options

I use and own a Sram 1070 cassette in sizes 11-28 and 11-32 and they both work great with the Ultegra, 105, Rival and Force drivetrain. Trains. I've used Sram 1050 and 1091R chains with 1070 cassettes and a couple of Shimano and KMC chains and everything worked fine from that point of view. The 1070 cassette (as well as the slightly heavier 1050 cassette) are great because they combine modest costs. with great durability and pinion tooth options. Most of the time I ride an 11-26 or 11-28 cassette, but when I'm riding steep hills (like 15-20% gradients in the mountains and hills of California) I switch to an 11-32 cassette. (In fact, my girlfriend almost always rides a Sram 1070 11-32 and loves the wide gearing it gives her with the compact 50/34 crankset.) I've gotten a few thousand miles on the 1070 cassettes I have and they still look great and shift like new. The half sprocket holder design is also much easier to clean than my Sram 1090 cassettes (which are mostly 3 piece) - a nice bonus as a clean drivetrain usually lasts longer, shifts better and is simpler. to kick. :-) While not an ultra-lightweight design like Sram Red, Shimano Dura Ace, or Campy Super Record, the 1070 is solid as nails and costs about 1/4 to 1/3 its price. Analogues, which is certainly important if you don't have a sponsor for your skating habit! (I don't know.) :-) I would recommend the 1070 cartridge (as well as the 1050) to anyone looking for a reliable, inexpensive cartridge that still offers great performance. Thanks very much!
