This replacement part does not have the same tolerances as the original part. Actual installation is simple but requires part modification to function properly. The inside of the knob is designed to accommodate a metal plunger that converts horizontal movement to vertical. This pushes the mechanism to the center of the shift plane, allowing you to move the shifter from Park to Drive and so on. The problem is that the inside of the spare is too tight and it gets stuck on the metal piston. Because the plunger doesn't go as deep into the spare, it keeps the shifter in a "slightly unlocked" position. As a result, you will not be able to remove the keys from the ignition because it will find that the switch is not fully unlocked. To fix this I had to remove material from inside the part to allow the metal piston to seat properly. After that the part worked as expected.
