They work best on a 'contour' key head (see white key on label) as opposed to hex key heads because they can shrink around either side bend and hold up well, but as long as you hold them in place while pressing them onto the hex heads you have a really well attached label. I would simply wrap the tape around the head of the key and then (again for hex keys - this isn't necessary for contour keys) use a small pair of pliers to hold the key and tape in the key ring recess and dip them in the water. a cup of hot water brought to a boil in the microwave. Just make sure the cutout for the key ring is left relatively open, but keep the tape centered around the widest part of the key as much as possible to keep it in place. I tried pulling one of these out after it cooled and was surprised at how well it held up. Industrial markers are used for identification. They wear/smear over time but work well enough.
