I purchased the TEAC CD-P1260 CD player to replace an old Sony 5 CD carrousel player. The old Sony unit still played CD just fine, but the carrousel mechanism had difficulty moving from CD to CD. My evaluation of the TEAC CD-P1260 player is relative to the old Sony unit.Pluses: o Simplicity. The CD loading mechanism is fast, simple, and, I hope, reliable. o Sound quality: It is at least as good, possibly better than, the old Sony unit. o Intro Check: This is a feature that is new to me. I find it handy. (Note: The old Sony unit had various features, like peak search, that the TEAC unit does not have. So far, I do not miss them.) o Headphone jack with level control: Nice to have. o The next "plus" may be peculiar to me, as it addresses a pet peeve I have with electronics: The remote does not have an On/Off button (I generally would prefer for most electronic units not to have one). And, when you turn off the unit, there is no "Standby" LED lit. This implies to me that it uses little if any electricity when it is turned off.Negatives: o It is sensitive to marginal discs. CDs that the old Sony unit would have trouble playing a track or two because of a poor quality or damaged CD, the TEAC unit will not play at all. It spins the CD for some time, and then says "No Disc." o The next "negative" may be peculiar to me: The TEAC CD-P1260 display has a limited viewing angle and it will only display the track number and time into the track when playing a CD. Note: This seems to be true of most CD players today, including newer Sony models. My old Sony unit could display the track number and time into the track (like the TEAC unit), or the track number and time left on the track, or the total time left on the CD. I found the last option the most useful, but had a hard time finding a new unit with it.UPDATE:After using this for a while and playing many CDs, both ones that I burned and that were pre-recorded, I am very happy with the product. All the CDs play perfectly., with this exception: It did not properly play SONY CD-R Audio CDs that I recent burned. I sunsequently bought a package of Memorex CD-R discs and it plays them perfectly. I suspect that I have a bad batch of SONY CD-R Audio CDs.
