Lysine does not affect or harm feline viruses

Please do not give this to your cat. Efficacy of lysine on viruses in cats. You can find and read the study by searching for their names and the words lysine and cat. It's free online through NIH. Bol and Bunnik reviewed experiments with cats and lysine supplements. They found no benefit for cats because lysine had no effect on viruses. "In short, we can conclude that feeding cats a lysine-enriched diet did not prevent or reduce viral shedding or seroconversion, or reduce the frequency or severity of clinical symptoms caused by FHV-1. to prevent or treat eye or upper respiratory tract disease caused by FHV-1 and may even have an enhancing effect on viral replication.” In other words, lysine may harm your cat and will not help your cat recover recovering from an upper respiratory tract virus outbreak. Your cat will recover on its own. A review of Bol and Bannick's research shows that lysine does not affect arginine levels in cats, and if it does affect arginine, its effects on the cat are harmful. Arginine is essential for cats to convert waste proteins (ammonia) into urea, in other words, vital for healthy kidney function. You should not feed your cat anything that affects or could potentially affect kidney function. Kidney disease is worse than a sticky eye.
