Error loading media. Welcome to my Kevlar Scarf Review. Foreword: I've been looking for a puncture resistant scarf for a long time that looks and feels like a normal scarf and is breathable. I believe this product can handle it depending on how you layer it. Appendix to this review: 1. A little about my experience as a non-specialist in testing materials for knife and cut impact.2. My quick look at a Kevlar scarf, how it's put together and its quality.3. Comment on the negative review where the person "tore the Kevlar test fabric to pieces".4. Summary Part 1 (of 3).5. Summary part 2 (of 3) - testing test part.6. 6. Summary part 3 (of 3) - concluding remarks7. Disclaimer 1.*** A bit of my layman's experience with impact and cut test materials**** I have had impact and cut tests with ballistic (bulletproof) Kevlar, Kevlar gloves, Kevlar neck protector, ballistic Kevlar impregnated silica nanoparticles and PEG carried out . Kevlar Scarf Manufacturing and Quality**** Cut protection equivalent to level 2 cut protection of Kevlar or UHMW gloves. Layer. However, it still skips the blade when strong force is applied. So not really stab protection in 1 layer. * The scarf's 2-ply stab protection is on par with the 1-ply close-meshed UHMWPE material used to protect fencing and arrow-hunting clothing. However, a Kevlar scarf is significantly softer, more cuddly and more breathable. When using some knives, like the Gerber shown in the picture, it protected quite well from 2-4 layers of stitches. I also just tried the new Mora 2000 knife (used by some Swedish army units). This knife could pierce at least 4 layers when high/full force was applied. 3. *** Comment on a negative review where the person "ripped the Kevlar test cloth to pieces". and impact resistance of each material, you need to have a soft backing material to mimic real life/human body. In the background, Kevlar is being crushed between two hard points, a knife blade and a composite. This is an unrealistic scenario as the human body is soft and flexible compared to a hard surface. holds up as well or better than many other Evlar and UHMWPE-K materials I've tested in the past. 4.*** Summary Part 1 (of 3) ***One layer wasn't really impact resistant, but 2 layers and up started blocking impacts without breaking the Kevlar thread. However, be aware that there was quite a bit of indenting/blunting force, so you're still likely to get hurt, just less. For what I paid and given its thinness, breathability and lightness, this Kevlar scarf meets and exceeds my expectations with a thick foam base. When only 1 layer was pierced, it went through a bit, in the picture on the right you can see a tiny hole. However, when connecting 2 layers, it did not pass. However, there were some pretty serious dents/blunt hits to the foam. When the 4 layers were put together the dent was much less severe. Update: I just got a new Mora 2000 knife and did some more testing by pressing the butt with full force and using all my weight on it I am able to cut through again. This is an unrealistic scenario, but still. 6. *** Summary Part 3 (of 3) - Final Conclusion *** I will order one more of these and use 2 together. Since the scarf is quite large unfolded, I can use 2 of them unfolded together covering most of my torso front, back and neck, giving me unobtrusive - always with me - protection from knives. *Disclaimer*** No material is 100% cut or impact resistant, and even the angle of impact or movement of the knife matters. DO NOT experiment with using yourself as a carrier material as you will likely sustain serious injury. However, a Kevlar scarf protects against knife attacks much better than a regular cotton scarf or nothing at all.
