These are firm cushions when fluffed as recommended by the manufacturer. However, they fit snugly around the neck and head. I'm impressed with the overall quality, although I haven't washed the covers yet. Update: After a week of use, I'm even more impressed. I originally bought them for reading as a back brace. I have also found them to be the best I have ever used for cervical spine support. I wake up with a lot less pain and don't keep waking up throughout the night. Since they are adjustable in stiffness and height, I think anyone can make them "perfect" for their purposes with a little modification. I've never been particularly impressed with a pillow, but this is an exception. This is exceptional value in a double package.
