I paid a lot for these salt and pepper shakers because they said the lids were stainless steel. After only a few months, the ceiling was rusted in three places. Salt will stick to the sides of the lid. So if you want to add salt, the salt stuck there comes out and you waste a lot of salt. Make sure you open the shaker over the sink or you'll end up with a mess.
