When you have a kitten that needs to eat but can't or won't, that spanking sound will be like music to your ears. , and their position at the food bowl is a feast for the eyes. Long story short, our kitten was attacked by a friend's dog. They played together for many years, so it was a coincidence. (It was later revealed that the dog had a broken toe and the pain probably led to his tantrum that day) Our kitten will be fine but didn't want to eat much during her recovery. The neck and throat area is still stitched and the vet said she may have discomfort when chewing. We've tried baby food, pie cat food (mixed and diluted with water to soften it), I've even used an immersion blender. in a jar of pie to smooth out the texture even more---none of them were tempting enough, although the baby food was the most interesting. Although their regular diet consists of several canned Tiki Cat flavors, I was not aware of this Tiki Cat Velvet product. .Our friend (the dog owner) was so vigilant when trying to help restore our kit that she brought several of these packages last week. I opened the package and our set went crazy. She meowed for the first time since the accident, circling above me like a shark. I didn't feel anything when I opened the pouch, but I think she felt it right away. I squeezed something out of the pouch and she swallowed it straight from the corner of the pack. I squeezed half the pouch into her bowl and this happy smack began. It passed in a minute. The other half of the package disappeared just as quickly. If you're familiar with the Gerber chicken baby food jar, it's very similar in texture and consistency to this one. I simply cut off a corner and then squeezed out a portion. This makes dosing much neater and cleaner. After using this food for two weeks, our vet suggested adding some of her previous favorite wet foods. These packages are a godsend, but they are quite expensive. As exciting as it was to see her eating again, I was a little nervous that she would continue to refuse other foods even after she had fully recovered. Sprinkle them with their regular wet food and then add some more Velvet on top - - - like a Velvet sandwich. It works, and she's been eating a whole bowl this way for over a week. Knowing how much she loves it I will continue to buy it and serve it that way even after she has fully recovered.
