Review on Gray Manfrotto L Bracket Q2, Model MS050M4-Q2 by Tony Wilson

Plate does not latch securely

There are some very nice L-brackets for the Nikon D800 but they all seem to fit the Arca Swiss system. My tripod head is a Manfrotto RC2 (496RC2) so it won't fit. Although this mount has a "universal" design and isn't specific to the D800 (meaning you can't access the battery compartment without moving/removing the mount), I figured I could live with the inconvenience to be able to switch easily. Camera orientation from landscape to portrait while keeping the camera in the center of the tripod. What I can't stand is the "play" in the mount. For some reason the mounting plates attached to this mount make the whole thing wobble slightly when clamped in the head. This doesn't happen with other Manfrotto plates I have and I have no idea why it's happening with this mount. I use a tripod when I need stability (e.g. for long exposures). If the camera shakes when mounted on a tripod, it doesn't help. I tried to contact Manfrotto on their website to ask about this but got no response. Luckily, Revain has a pretty good returns policy. For those who are in the same situation I still haven't found a great solution. I was hoping someone would make a plate that attaches to Arca Swiss braces with a "clip" on the bottom compatible with RC2, but haven't found one yet. I really didn't want to switch my head mount to the Arca Swiss but that seems like the only viable option to use a quality L mount.
