I have tried Phosban and PhosGuard and for some reason ROWAphos has worked much better for me and reduced the phosphate level from 0.4 to 0.02 within a few days. I have never received such a good answer from others. Of course, this might just be my reef chemistry at the moment and might have happened to other products if I'd tried them in a different order, but it still works great for me. Phosban in particular seemed to stick together when it didn't. I use it in the media reactor, more or less at the recommended amount. My other advice is to change it more often at first as it will be used up faster when there is a lot of phosphate to adsorb. Again, maybe it's just my chemistry, but watch out for pH swings - mine dropped noticeably as PO4 dropped quickly, requiring a higher dosage of alkalinity.
