No Rug Doctor, tanks are small but still pretty good

If you don't mind the small tank size, this does a damn good job cleaning carpets. The household neglected the carpet. We replaced the laminate downstairs (finally) but there's still carpet upstairs and it's getting dirty. I danced around the dark spots in the hallway. I was fed up and didn't want to spend $50 to hire a carpet doctor, so spending four times as much and getting a carpet cleaner made sense, right? I bought this Bissell because someone reviewed the vacuum cleaner I was looking at and pointed out that it has metal parts that rust with use. It doesn't make sense to me why you would have ungalvanized metal in a device that only works with WATER, but whatever. Hoover's poor design choices made me decide on this one. A very simple car. Came mostly assembled. All you have to do is screw on the top handle and you're good to go. The tanks are very small, but what is there. I can walk Pretty easy to understand and use. I really like how you can attach the brush to the hose and the edge to the handle. It keeps everything together so I don't have to hunt for accessories when I need them. I also really like how it lifts and becomes portable. Following the instructions I was able to clean a 3ft by 3ft section of carpet before emptying the recovery tank and refilling the solution tank. which was pretty sad. I then resorted to simply "pumping up" the trigger so I didn't have to refill it as often and was able to finish the hallway carpet with about 3-4 refills/dumps. The water was pretty dirty which is a testament to how well this thing cleans and how dirty my carpet was after not cleaning in a home with cats and dogs for almost a couple of years. I want to emphasize that the tanks are very small. . That means going to the sink/toilet, draining and refilling more often. When the dirty water tank reaches the "Full" mark, IT WILL STOP TAKING WATER. At first I was confused as to why I had to reset the recovery tank to have it vacuum for a few seconds, but then I realized the full indicator line is about halfway up the tank mark. Yes, and the tank is so small initially. The side brushes do not rotate and do nothing. They are great for sweeping the edge of a rug to clean it. (I vacuumed and cleaned the edges beforehand.) I haven't tested the hose mount yet, but the next things I'll tackle are the ladder and heel.

Pros
  • Two special tools. The 3" stain remover and crevice tool removes stubborn dirt from stairs, upholstery and hard-to-reach areas.
Cons
  • Style 90
