Review on ๐Ÿ”Œ Carviya 3 5 6 8 10 15 20 Amp Male Car Cigarette Lighter/Aux Socket Plug Connector 12V with Fuse, Diode Indicator (10A) by Joshua Overacre

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Slightly strained wiring for 15-20A operation

I purchased this product to replace the 12V plug on a Wagan Pure Sine Wave inverter harness for a 150W inverter. These wires are likely to be 14-16 AWG to handle the 12-13 amps, or they will pull out of the 12V DC plug if the inverter is running at 150W rating. This replacement plug is almost identical to the one it replaces and this pair comes with 20A fuses. The only difference is that the wires from the original Wagan connector were spot welded to the connector pins. Obviously spot welding was the best way to avoid internal shorts due to the VERY NARROW internal spacing for this connector. This product has a power indicator LED connected between the (+) and (-) pins which corresponds to the wire size and the confined interior space makes this connector INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT to wire (solder) to. The 2 pins connected to the LED were the only ones suitable for wiring. Fortunately, the LED and associated resistor leads are made of a material strong enough to withstand the manipulation required to assemble it. My past life experience involves some precision repairs and with the help of a helping hand tool I was able to do this. It turned out really well, much to my surprise. I'm not sure if this plug is rated for 15-20 amps, but I think the materials it's made of are reassuring. Someone with finer soldering skills and more patience can get this to work. In hindsight, had I known about this, the original Powerlet receptacles and plugsโ€”more durable, with a larger contact area, and easier to wireโ€”would have been a better fit for my application, even though they cost about $30 per plug and receptacle. .I would like to include a photo to show small gaps but I will not take it apart again unless it breaks!
