They light up when you turn on the switch.
They light up when the switch is turned on, which is very nice. I docked them to the same star because they make a very low hum, especially when dimmed. It's not loud enough to bother me (and I'm one of those people who usually gets annoyed by that sort of thing) just to point it out.
