Review on KEF LSX Black Wireless Music System: Exceptional Sound and Seamless Connectivity (Pair) by Delos Rodeo

I don't write many reviews but since the reviews on this product confuse me I thought I'd chime in to help people with their decision. I looked at reviews on several sites. , including the KEF homepage, there were two key takeaways when making the purchase decision and summarizing reviews: (1) excellent, arguably unrivalled, sound quality, and (2) complicated setup and terrible apps. Well I don't shy away from spending that kind of money on good audio equipment but I'm not sure no amount of money can make up for the loss of a few days of your life with a disappointing technical product which is why the negative reviews were ref. As for the sound quality, I find it a bit subjective, but I don't think anyone would say the sound quality isn't great at all. Are they SO better than some of the cheaper competitors? I don't know but I'm very happy with my purchase. It's a rich, full soundstage, really good high-mid separation and surprisingly good bass for its size. They sound a little less warm than I would like at lower volumes, but the more you crank up the volume, the more they shine. For context, I have Magnepan towers in our main room and Sonos 5+ Moves elsewhere, and I'd place them mid-way in terms of sound reproduction. I played around with this a bit, but I found a full guide online that set everything up fairly easily. After reading some of the comments I decided again to set the speakers up for a wired connection first and use that wired connection to download and install the firmware update to 5.1. I then factory reset the speaker via the pin on the back (this does not reset the firmware) and set up the WiFi connection via the LSX Airplay option in the app, with the iPhone taking over the WiFi transmission effortlessly. It's a little confusing that the app doesn't let you set up WiFi when connected via a wired connection, but in the end there was no problem resetting and reconfiguring the device via WiFi. There are two uses, but functionally I don't use it much either, so I don't see a big minus. I can connect via Airplay or Spotify Connect, both of which can control the volume from my phone so I see no need to use apps. And I haven't had any issues with dropouts etc. All in all I'd say that if you're the kind of person who spends that kind of money on audio gear you get what you pay for and shouldn't worry about that . technical difficulties.
