Review on πŸ₯ Shure DMK57-52 Drum Mic Kit - Complete 4-Piece Microphone Set for Drums by Dave Giri

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great mics with crappy clips

A drummer friend of mine had this set so I decided to buy one for myself. I had the opportunity to use it extensively for recording for about 6 months before moving on to another musical project. Everyone knows the SM57 is a good microphone, so no need to go into detail. The Shure kick drum mic is solid, well built, has a nice mic input and mic stand mount design, and more importantly, delivers a nice clean kick to the kick drum. Beautiful, precise and clear. I use it up close to pick up the thump and click, and use a 15" speaker that I converted to a mic placed about 3 feet away to capture most of the bass. It all goes well together. this package sucks. They're well built and fit almost every drum I've tried them on, but no matter how tight you tighten them, they will eventually come loose. Nobody wants to be the center of attention when it comes to recording the best drum. I take it and then I go to record, I find that the clamp has come loose and the microphone rests directly on the plastic throughout the recording. It's also not an accidental defect, all three of my friends and all three of me do it same thing, they just sit unused in a drawer in the studio and i use regular mic stands for everything which is a bit disappointing but the mics are worth it.

  • Don't waste your time
Cons
  • Reliability
