It's cheap, it works.
This is the most amazing device ever invented to hitchhike to new planets. I just got back from the Horsehead Nebula tour and it must have been a lot of fun. The key to using it as a method of detecting a passing interstellar spacecraft is connecting it to an appropriate power source.
