Size difference between Ascender and Ascender II

I just bought the Ascender and Ascender II jackets in large-tall to compare the fit and feel between them. I'm 6ft 2in and about 220lbs, I'm in the middle between a regular size and a plus size. Due to my size, fit is everything. If the Ascender can be considered the original version of this jacket, then the Ascender II is the "slim fit" version. Here are the differences I noticed: - The top of the Ascender II is much thinner than the original Ascender. I would rate the Ascender II as being a good one to two inches smaller than the original Ascender. Winch can fit. As others have pointed out, the fit between the two jackets is most noticeable at the shoulders/armpits. The armholes of the original Ascender are shorter, but much wider than the II. As a result, only thinner arms slide easily into the II sleeves. - The II sleeves are about an inch longer than the original. The sleeves of the original are also slightly wider up to the wrist, the II has a much larger collar than the original. When the hen jumps out, collar II looks very strong and sticks out a bit. Fully zipped, the Original Ascender offers more neck freedom. That's not to say the Ascender II isn't a good jacket. This is exactly the version you want if your figure allows you to wear tight or fitted clothes. If you're not, then the Original Ascender is the jacket for you.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
