Updated 5/4/2020 Just wanted to give an update as I am very happy with this product and company. (Yes, my original unit failed, but this issue was quickly resolved by iFi, any product no matter how good can sometimes be rejected.) In any case, those who have a gaming laptop know that their USB audio is something can be loud . For me personally, this is HP's omen. And those who have or have had a Parasound P5 preamp know that when it comes to sound quality, the DAC can seem a bit basic. However, when the ipurifier3 is switched on, it looks like a completely different high-end DAC. And using the 99dB efficiency horn drivers is a real treat with no hiss or background noise. I can't speak for all iFi products but ipurifier3 is the winner. Update 10/15/19 I rarely post a product update after a year, but this product totally deserves it. I can say that this product is the best upgrade I have ever had to my system. What this has done for my audio from my computer is just amazing. I know that I almost exclusively listen to audio from my computer (mainly Spotify). What this does to ensure your sound is clear, re-clocked and balanced is nothing short of amazing. Nothing is taken away from the audio signal, it just keeps it in perfect condition. Without this, I found USB audio wasn't as enjoyable. And I have a Parasound P5 preamp and an Anthem two-way order audio amp with an 18-inch subwoofer. All I can say is that almost everyone who has heard my system has now bought an ipurifier 3. This company deserves 10 stars not only for their product but also for their customer support. 09/21/18 - I'm updating my review because the company (Tiffany) contacted me and are sending a replacement. As long as the product sounds and lasts like a first device, this is an amazing product and company. 9/16/18 I took a chance on buying another one because I really liked the first one while it worked. I'm starting to wonder if there's a quality control issue or just a bad batch. In this case, when you change music or close the application, there is a crackle or crackle. The old one never did and my DAC won't do it without this connector. This new one doesn't seem to have solid, tight, punchy bass, and doesn't tame those annoyingly harsh high-ends that can be overdone. I can't tell any difference in use. My first worked as advertised and sounded exactly as I expected and loved it until the 3rd or 4th day it came out. It just sucks because they really do improve the sound quality when they work properly. I can contact Tiffany at iFi and have them send me a replacement directly from the company instead of Amazon. I hope there are no problems. If I get a good working device, my rating goes back up to 5 stars. Update 09/13/18 After I wrote a good review, the device stopped working today. I'm not sure if I'll try a replacement or not. To update. Actually, you don't have to wait two weeks for this update. HOW THIS HOLDS, I'LL KEEP IT! Well I have to admit I'm shocked at how much I like this device, I honestly thought my first impressions might have been a placebo effect but I'm happy to report that wasn't the case. With my gear I just didn't think I would benefit from it. So my son came to help me test it blindly and try to fool me. But picking a winner was easy, ipurifier3 should stay on my system. By the way, my son was shocked. He didn't think my system could get much better anyway, let's start. With this device, the sound stage has not only become bigger, wider and even higher. The bass is accurate and now I don't have those random unnatural highs that I used to have to get some music. The best part is that I don't use any bass or treble enhancements, just pure input to output. My son and I were both shocked, we had to check several times to make sure there wasn't any added bass or treble. I can't believe I finally have the sound back that I had with my previous system years ago. And that's probably better. The music is clean and precise, no glitches, no confusing falls. Each tool is fully identified and correctly placed. I just can't stop listening, I don't do and don't do anything anymore. LOL My 27 year old son even sat for hours listening to classical, percussion and acoustic music. He said he never thought he could appreciate music like this. But who knows, maybe I opened it up to real music. Maybe he's starting to realize that rap isn't really music. But we've tried rock, rap and country to see how it goes. He liked it, I liked everything but rap, it's just not my thing. I have to tell you that I really hate giving away this kind of free advertising, but this product (as long as it doesn't break) is really commendable. Don't listen to a review telling you this is for low-end systems, that's utter nonsense. Perhaps he does not understand the technology of this device. I didn't think my decent 15K system would benefit from this and I have no regrets saying I was wrong. I didn't want to try this at first, as I've heard it mostly only makes sense for cheaper systems. To be honest, my system already sounded great, but if there's a way to make even a small improvement, I usually try it. My sound system might not be the most expensive, but I have about 15k for a 2.1 stereo. And I like it more than some of my buddies who have twice as much. It's so difficult, time consuming and important to choose the right ingredients. A lot of research work and even more listening and listening devices. At least according to first observations. When it comes to rock or country music, I'm still in the dark. Earlier though if you listen to jazz, classical or piano bar type music. To get the right sound I had to add or adjust some bass, treble etc. Now that I'm listening to the above music. I can get it as is with no adjustments or improvements to bass or treble. And I have to say that it seems to do a good job of faithfully reproducing music as intended. Horns, trumpets, piano, snare, etc. sound more natural. And I know it could be a placebo effect, I wish or hoped it sounded better. For this reason I will wait a week or two before making a final decision on whether to keep or return the product. I expect at least a hundred or so hours of comparing and listening to benchmarks to give an honest and accurate review. So check back in a few weeks for updates.
